For the past 25 years the Silverton Runner's Club has been an active community organization with the goal of helping people have fun getting fit and being involved in competition. Over the years the Club has held many races and events that have involved thousands of people. These activities have drawn many to Silverton who may not have been here otherwise.
Members of the Club have been very involved in coaching and other roles in Silverton and Mt. Angel, and, as a non-profit organization, the Club has contributed financial support to schools. In 2007 the Club contributed $1,000 to each of the Track Programs at Silverton and (Mt. Angel) Kennedy High Schools. The Club also provides sports scholarships and shoes to low-income athletes through the Silver Falls YMCA.
Each year the Club puts on two competitive races: The Homer Classic (held on the first Saturday in August) and The Silver Falls Challenge (held on the first Saturday in June). We also have monthly meetings, group training runs on the first Saturday of each month, and a Christmas Lights non-competitive run and walk followed by a pizza party.
